Katja Herbers is daughters of violinist Vera Beths and oboist Werner Herbers. She spent much of her time with her mother in America when she was young, and they traveled around the world. Her mother remarried cellist Anner Bylsma while her father was remarried to costume designer Leonie Polak who introduced her theater. She was an Canadian au pair and learned to speak Dutch German and English growing as a young. Herbers completed her studies at The Ignatius Gymnasium.
